Home Energy Ratings

The Residential Energy Services Network, or RESNET, is the creator and administrator of the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) and the HERS Index score. The HERS Index serves as a useful way to grade a home's overall level of energy efficiency. A RESNET-certified Home Energy Rater is needed to perform a HERS Rating for a new or existing home. Green Door Energy’s staff has been performing HERS Ratings in NC's Piedmont region for over a decade.

NC Energy Conservation Code Compliance Testing

Whole-house air leakage can be measured with a diagnostic tool called a blower door. Home builders can add a layer of third-party quality assurance for their clients by having the home tested for airtightness.

Duct leakage can account for up to 20 per cent or more of residential energy bills, and can have adverse effects on occupant health and safety. Since 2012, the state of North Carolina has mandated leakage testing for newly installed residential forced air duct systems. Green Door Energy has tested thousands of duct systems for code compliance and can also assist HVAC contractors locate leaks through smoke testing.

ENERGY STAR New Homes Certification

Green Door Energy is proud to provide rating services to certify new homes for the ENERGY STAR® label. The ENERGY STAR label on a home means that it has been designed and built to standards well above other homes in the market today. It means better quality, better comfort, and better durability. It also means that the home is a better value for today, and a better investment for tomorrow. The ENERGY STAR label gives homeowners the peace of mind that their home has undergone a better process for inspections, testing, and verification to ensure that it meets strict requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
